Equipment & Enrollment
 

Full Equipment is mandatory before any student can take to the ice, including H.E.C.C. certified helmet, face mask, mouth guard and throat protector as mandated by USA Hockey.

School enrollment is on a first come basis. In the event classes are filled you will be notified by phone. Your class assignment letter will be sent to you no later than June 15, 2008.

All students enrolled at the Gary Dineen Hockey School will need to submit a health form signed by a physician at least two weeks prior to their class. Health forms will be sent out with your acceptance letter of you can use your own form.

ELITE CLASS “NEW FORMAT”
MONDAY JULY 13 through SATURDAY JULY 18                     

ALL DAY CLASSES
Ages8yrs to 10yrs  - 8:00am to 4:20pm
Ages 11ys to 13yrs – 8:00am to 4:20pm
Our most popular class will run for six days Monday through Saturday but will run all day long.  Each day will consist of 4 hours of ice time broken up throughout the day with off ice training such as shooting, stick skills, agility drills, and floor hockey to teach positional situations off ice. We will also have a class room session with video work.  Our on ice portion will consist of high intensity skill training, including, power skating with a hockey application, passing, upper level stickhandling skills as well as small games and full ice scrimmage. The final day will be our “Super Game Day” with players playing a full three 20 minute period game with refs, to display their skills and game understanding.
Cost: $495.00 ($450.00 if paid in full by April 1, 2009)

MITE CLASS – AGES 5YR TO 9YR
JULY 20 through JULY 24

ONE WEEK CLASS
8:00am – 10:00am
This one-week class is for mite age players from beginners to advanced level players.  Each day will consist of two hours of ice where players will be taught proper skill techniques, power skating with a hockey application, as well as small games and full ice scrimmage.  We will combine fun drills with proper teaching technique so players get the muscle memory training they need to improve.  Positional play will be stressed during scrimmages as well as game recognition.  Players will be grouped in this class by age, size, and ability levels to insure proper development.

POWER SKATING / SKILLS CLASS
JULY 20 through JULY 24

ONE WEEK CLASS
Ages 8yrs to 11yrs – 10:00am – 12:00pm
Ages 12yrs to 18yrs – 12:00pm – 2:00pm
The game of hockey today is all about skating and speed.  This one-week class combines one hour each day of power skating, emphasizing proper power stride, balance, edging and strength with a professional power skating instructor followed by one hour of puck skills while reemphasizing the proper power stride.  Develop more speed, a smoother stride, and greater power while carrying a puck.

“NEW” 3 VS 3 CROSS ICE CLASS
JULY 27, 28, & 29 

THREE DAY CLASS
Ages 5yrs through 9yrs – 9:00am – 10:30am
Ages 10yrs through 14 yrs – 10:40am – 12:10pm
This three day class will be limited to 6 goaltenders and 36 skaters.  Each day teams will be selected based on age, size, and ability levels and will go through a series of cross ice drills followed by 3 vs 3 cross ice games.  The purpose of this class is to allow players to work on in tight skills in a limited area in order to increase the quickness of thought process and reaction time.  Cross ice games will be fun and educational.

“NEW” GOALTENDER CLASS / SHOOTER - SCORERS CLASS
JULY 30, 31, & AUGUST 1

THREE DAY CLASS
Ages 6yrs through 10yrs – 8:00am – 11:00am
Ages 11yrs through 15yrs – 10:00am – 1:00pm
This three day class is a goaltenders class, run by college goaltender coaches and pro and college players,  who will work with goaltenders on position specific skills and a scorers class, run by Lincoln Flagg and Tom O’ Connor, working with forwards and defensemen on scoring technique, deking skills, & quick shot releases.  Each day for the first hour goalies will work with their goalie coaches while shooters will work in the other end of the rink on shooting techniques and breaking down deke moves. The second hour will have the forwards and defensemen going through deking and shooting drills against the goaltenders.  Players and goalies will be video taped and video will be broken down the third hour in classroom where goalies and skaters will go to classrooms for video replay.  This class will be limited to 12 goaltenders and 18 shooters on a first come basis.

“NEW” COMBINED DEFENSEMEN / FORWARD CLASS
AUGUST 11 through AUGUST 15 

ONE WEEK CLASS
Ages 8yrs – 10yrs – 8:00am – 12:00pm
Ages 11yrs – 14yrs – 12:00pm – 4:00pm
This one week position specific class has been combined to better teach situational game conditions.  Each day will consist of the defensemen going on ice for one hour for position specific drills while the forwards are in the classroom covering different positional topics such as cycling, breakouts, forechecks, face-offs,  blueline penetrations etc.  Forwards will then go on ice for position specific drills while the defensemen go into the classroom. Then both groups will return to the ice together for 1.5 hours of drills that we have gone over in the classroom such as breakouts, 1 on 1’s, 2 on 1’s, 3 on 2’s etc. This is one of the best classes for learning about your position and how to play different situations.  If we have players that want to attend with their line or defensive partner we will keep you together as partners or lines and work with you each day together.  Players will be video taped during on ice sessions and we will be going over  those tapes in classroom to reemphasize proper position. Dvd’s will be available for players to purchase. This class is limited to 16 defensemen and 18 forwards for each session on a first come basis.

“NEW” ADULT TRAINING CLASS
AUGUST 17 THROUGH AUGUST 22, 2009 

ONE WEEK CLASS-NIGHTS
6:00PM – 9:00PM
This one week class will be run at night for adult men and women players looking to have fun, improve their skills, and game play.  Each night will consist of 2 hours of ice, where Professional Coach Lincoln Flagg, and former Pittsburgh Penguin, Tom O’ Connor will put players through a practice with an emphasis on skill work.  The second hour will be small games and full ice scrimmages with instruction.  The third hour will be a classroom session where players can ask questions, go over video work from the ice, and learn different aspects of the game.

OLYMPIA ICE CENTER - WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA

COLLEGE COACHES CLASS – JULY 6 THROUGH JULY 10
JUNIOR / PREP / HIGH SCHOOL CLASS  10:00am – 5:00pm
MIDGET / BANTAM MAJOR CLASS – 8:30am – 3:00pm
Attend one of most popular classes for older players.  This class is run by Division 1 and Division 3 college coaches.  Each day consists of 1 hour of off ice training with a certified strength coach.  Players will have 3.5 hours of ice per day for on ice skills and small games followed by team practice and scrimmage.  The on ice portion will be broken up, during the day, with players going to off ice classroom where they will go over different aspects of the game such as forechecks, defensive zone coverage, power play and penalty kills, as well as video work.  This is an opportunity for players to get personal exposure to college coaches and to learn what they look for when they recruit players. Coaches who have worked this class in the past are Len Quesnelle (UMass-Amherst), Campbell Blair (UMaine), Rick Bennett (Union College), Gary Wright (AIC), Gerry Keefe (Westfield State), Darren Yopik (Merrimack) and Gene Reilly (Northeastern) to name some.  Former students who have attended this class have gone on to play at UMass-Amherst, Merrimack, Westfield State, and  AIC to mention few of the schools.

AMELIA PARK ARENA - WESTFIELD, MA

 
“NEW” HOCKEY / LACROSSE CLASS 

ALL DAY CLASSES
AUGUST 3 THROUGH AUGUST 7, 2009
Ages 9yrs to 12yrs – 8:00am – 4:00pm
Ages 13yrs to 17yrs – 8:00am – 4:00pm
This NEW Hockey and Lacrosse class will give players that play both games an opportunity to get professional instruction in both sports.  Each day will consist of players going on ice for 2 hours of skill work, small games, and full ice controlled scrimmages. Players will then go to off ice activity on the outdoor rink for off ice skill work such as stickhandling, and shooting, floor hockey, and positional walk through’s. Players will then go to classroom where they will eat lunch and go over video work.
They will then go to Lacrosse class on the fields at the Boys Club behind the arena where they will get skill instruction for 1 hour each day followed by 1 hour of class room instruction and then 1.5 hours of team practice, small games and controlled scrimmage. While the younger group is on the ice the older group will be on the Lacrosse fields.  Players may sign up for hockey only or lacrosse only also.  Enrollment is limited and players will be grouped in each session by age, size and ability levels to insure proper development.

Enrollment will be on a first come basis.
